Once the workshop starts, you receive

  • daily emails containing information, stories, narratives and analogies designed to support your practice
  • guided meditations lasting between 5 – 20 minutes
  • access to an ELT-related community sharing and discussion forum, in which you’ll exchange your experience and reflections during the workshop

  • membership to Mindful ELT‘s online practice centre for live practice sessions

Sneak peek at what we’ll cover

In WEEK ONE, we come into closer communication with ourselves by learning how to come into contact with our thoughts, feelings, body and perceptions. How can we communicate with our students, clients or colleagues if we are not communicating with ourselves?

Communication with ourselves is the north star of Mindful ELT

We learn to cultivate understanding and compassion. We’ll practise looking at ourselves and others with more  kindness and understanding. This generates a shift in our perceptions which in turn reduces stress, anxiety and depression and increases our levels of well-being

We learn to get in touch with and cultivate understanding and compassion. We’ll practise  softening our sharp edges by learning how to look at ourselves and others with more  kindness and understanding

We practise conscious breathing as nourishment and experience the clarity that comes with stillness and open awareness. Like cool water on a hot day, we bring body and mind together as a means of attaining comfort and a clear awareness of peace and joy

What it isn’t

With mindfulness having become somewhat of a buzzword lately, it could be assumed that these Workshops are intended to stock you up with “mindful activities” to take into the classroom. This is not the case.

Mindful ELT‘s Workshops are for those of us who are curious about and want to engage with and explore the workings of our own minds and emotions in the first instance, so that whatever we share comes from an inner transformation and the insight we gain, letting us know what action is required (or not!) in the present moment, rather than a supply of materials.

What people are saying

Andrew Watson

Tanya’s workshop takes mindfulness meditation principles and applies them in an accessible and non-doctrinal way. Even during this short 4-week course I found my awareness of my students’ affective and cognitive needs was heightened and I was operating more in the “here and now”.

Bringing mindfulness into our lives as teachers and our classrooms radically changes the whole experience of the teaching/learning process. I’ve developed skills to observe my students’ learning, but with the workshops, and practice, I am now observing human beings learning. The readings, audios and tasks have definitely had a positive impact in my (teaching) practice.

I think mindfulness can completely change the way we teach. By being more present with our learners and practising deep listening with them, we become more compassionate and better able to support them in their learning. The classroom also seems like a perfect place to bring mindfulness out of sitting meditation sessions and into our lives. The course provides a great framework for starting to make that transition and for sharing the process with likeminded teachers.

In a nutshell

Designed to guide you step by step through the process of establishing a regular practice without going into great detail about the theory, philosophy or science behind it (though there’s a great deal of those to back it and we’re very happy to talk about them in the community discussion forum you’ll have access to when you register!)

For the main part, however, our philosophy is: just try it! And if you like it, if it makes you feel good or helps you in any way, then you’ll want to learn more, and you’ll find a way of doing just that. The enjoyment is in the practice itself, so you can enjoy it straight away! And we keep each other company and encourage each other along the way as we practice together.
